Folding your palm together

Folding your palm into a lotus form is the basic mudra (hand gesture) that we learned; I think for those who are from a Chinese traditional background, we learned and the mudra followed us since then. Not forgetting that the rosary that we wore on our hand, that proclaimed that it is a thing to do exorcism, and also something that will protect you, a typical perception by the society, well some wear 48 mani,, 72 manis, or 108 manis, it is all depends.

But what is the meaning behind this?

Venerable Master Xin Yun, the great monk from Taiwan that established Fo Guang Shan, has a story about the discussion between the fingers; the thumb said he can be the leader as his finger gesture indicate good, the second finger said he can lead all his siblings, because his finger gesture shows number 1, the middle finger said he wants to be the leader, because he is the longest one, the 4th finger said that he is qualifies to be one, because people put important and precious jewels to his finger, while the last one are so extremely quiet, he waited everyone to finish their words, and then he said he don’t want to fight or become a leader, because he is must more closer to the Buddha, which is enough for him.

“Closer enough to Buddha” What a wise sentence~

The prediction had made 2500 years ago, informing us that the dharma will once disappear due to a lot of causes, one is because of people choose not to get close to Buddha anymore, so we should be grateful that we still have chance to see the face of Buddha, and imprinted the face of Him into our mind, keep remember him for his effort of bringing us the precious dharma to this samsaric world.

Folding palm is getting closer to the Buddha, the easier way to make you get closer to Him. As my sharing with my students back in my hometown, I asked where the Buddha is, they answered is everywhere, and in our heart, because we are potential to be one, I continue my question with where is the “closest location of the heart?” they answered in our heart.

When we folded our palm, it actually connected to our heart, directly; whatever you do, it will reflects to your heart, your heart represent the Buddha seed, your hand represent your heart, so whatever you do has to be something will do by the Buddha, all these equal to good deed.
