Students like us met stress, how to overcome the stress by meditation?
There are lots of ways to meditation, and meditation does mean that we think nothing during we sit meditating or walk meditation, that is just one way; Prince of Sakya Clan, Siddharta Gautama thinks a lot while he is sitting under the tree, observing what happened right in front of his eye, and when he decided to seek out answer of the ultimate happiness, he meditate and think a lot; but the unique path of this sitting and thinking, is he is seeking out answer not externally, but internally.
Sakyamuni Buddha has said that as a sentient being, or human being, there is a potential that each of us will achieved enlightenment and become Buddha, it is just we ourself doesn’t wants to clear the dust of our heart, and choose not to be mindfulness, which reasoned that we are still suffering. Sakyamuni Buddha, our teacher had said that “each of the questions can be solved and answered internally, we can seek from the external source, but the most important is sought from our heart.”
After I met and discuss with Geshe-la Tenzin Zopa, I had asked venerable a question, “as a student, how we overcome the stress and pressure from our friendship, study and also relationship?” I asked because I am willing to share with those who not able to meet Geshe-la. Geshe-la told me the instruction.
First we had to understand the reason, why we have chance to come here and study? There is a cause, or many causes that reasoned us to be digging knowledge from an educational institution. Geshe-la gave me example, we were reasoned by 50 peoples in previous life, and this 50 person has done a karmic action, which benefited us which reasoned we can study at this educational institution. These 50 persons had prayed, chanted, shared their merit to us, and we got the merit that reasoned us here. In present life, we are holding the destiny of another 50 persons, u are now producing karma; but now is your choice to produce good karma or bad karma.
“DO NOT WORRY” is what Geshe-la told me, you are now the Karma Producer, but is your choice to produce good karma, or another side of the karma. Is nature, don’t perceived Karma is a burden, think naturally, think like a normal person (well, practicing Buddhism is not asking you to be a magician, but be a normal person) People do best now will influence the future, make this as your habit thinking – habituation of thinking, if you do best now you will give yourself, and the world a good karma.
Karma for not study now, will give yourself stress, will give you pressure, tons of it, if you failed your study – accept it, is the cause and effect – karma, you cannot blamed other.
It sounds stress to you now, but…
Try to recall where is the stress of study comes from? Is it because of your friends? Or yourself? Is it because of external matters? Or internal matters?
When you do meditation, try to relax from top to toes. (Well this is my practices, because I practise since I learned) And then slowly take your breath, maintain your breath until the calm situation, and try to seek the answer of stress, when you calm, you are actually towards a state where your heart is remain mindfulness, your mind is remain mindfulness as well as your soul. Put your palm facing above, imagine there is 50 peoples on top of your left hand, who prayed for you, which reasoned you a student today, another palm also facing above, and there is another 50 sentient beings, you are now working very hard not only for yourself, but for the 50 sentient beings – ask yourself a question, how you can help? Option 1 – be hardworking and produce good karma, Option 2 – be lazy and go shopping.
